I am currently studying to become a Naturopathic doctor at Bastyr University and am most interested in Vitalism and the process of how disease manifests and how the body heals. I grew up in both Nigeria and the Philippines and moved to the Unites States 11 years ago. While living in the Philippines I studied both Pharmacy and Education, and worked in many different arenas, including both as a professional athlete and a high school science teacher. After moving to the US, I worked as a mental health technician for the US Army, where I worked with a variety of mental health conditions, most often PTSD, adjustment disorders and domestic abuse. During my time in the Army, I got firsthand experience with how trauma affects the body, both physically and psychologically. I have always been interested in how an individual’s mind, body and spirit all interact to produce health or disease. During my time at Bastyr, I took extra courses in Jungian Psychology to further my understanding of the psyche and how childhood experience shapes the mind and affects a persons’ health. Spirituality is a large component of my own personal health, and I have studied different spiritual philosophies including both Christianity and Shamanism. I believe that healing takes transformation of the psyche, the spirit, and the physical body and that the process is nothing short of miraculous.
